Why there are no "life-changing" decisions in real life

Why there are no "life-changing" decisions in real life

As far as I can tell, decisions have the power to influence your life for the following 5 years at most. Why? because decisions are conclusions reached after considerations. Funny thing! In other words, we, human beings, distinguished from other animals by superior development, are supposed to believe that a decision will entirely change our life. But that just doesn't make sense, because no matter of how many examples you might think of, you'll feel the consequences, or benefits, of that decision for at most 5 years, but let's double that just to be sure(hehe). Life just loves making fun of us. So, to support my somewhat bald statement, I've come up with some points:

  1. Time makes you forget.  For starters, let's think about something good and pozitive, and that's the case when you benefit from a decision. For example a successful marriage parter. You've chosen your perfect partner. Despite a great start, over a few years you might forget the feelings you've put into that relationship, consequently ending it in a tiresome and time-consuming separation. You see, even when you thought you've made a right decision, you neglect the dedication you've invested in it and all the effort goes to waste. Human beings don't appreciate the present things that surround them. But that is not their fault. They are just being natural living beings, selfish and survival-inclined. In short, time makes you forget the work you've put into achieving what you want, thus making you lose the benefits of a right 'life-changing" decision.
  2. You are the only one that benefits from your decisions.  Let's visualize a wrong decision, such as choosing to attend the university most of your friends want to attend, in spite of it being not the right one for your career. People might say you've made the wrong decision, and that you'll have to live with the consequences for the rest of you life. I always laugh whenever I hear this phrase. How can a college degree change your life? Yeah, an Ivy League University comes with its perks, however that doesn't mean certain success and neither happiness. Nowadays, people don't have to be overly wealthy or own 10 sports cars, to achieve personal success. Every one has a different standard for happiness. For someone happiness is living in a quite remote neighborhood and taking a walk through the woods alone before dawn. On the other hand, someone may be striving all life to reaching that billion. Happiness is subjective. There is not a standard, nor a trend when it comes to happiness. To sum up, you don't have to fear making a so called "life-changing" decision, just because society imposes on you a certain standard. You know what you want. And the decisions you make are the best nes for you as an individual.
